| Zhejiang Province has long been called "Home of Silk and Tea".Tea business
began Han Dynasty according to the historical records. It has a ion history of 2,000
years. Tea became popular in tang Dynasty and flourished in Song Dynasty.Tang Dynasty is
an important period of the development of Zhejiang tea. At that time 10 prefectures and 55
counties in the province produced tea with good quality. Guzhu Zisun Tea in Huzhou,
Dongdai Tea in Wunzhou and Zhenkeng Tea in Muzhou were three tribute teas. In Song Dynasty
Zhejiang created pen-fire green tea. Till Min Dynasty. Zhejiang had popularized the
pan-fire green tea, and especially bulk tea. |

During Ming and Qing Dynasties. Zhejiang continued to create and produce quite a lot
of new varieties of teas, such as Lung Ching Tea of the West Lake, Huibai Tea of Longgang,
Yellow Bud-tea of the Mogan Hills, as well as Gunpowder Tea which has a good name of
"green gold". In Qing Dynasty, Zhejiang tea began to be exported and once
reached its period of great prosperity. |

| Zhejiang Province, with mild climate and abundant rainfall, situates in the subtopic
zone. The province is described as "seven hills, one river and two land in ten".
It has a chain of hills over 1,000 metros high in the south-west of the province while in
the middle, it is hilly with streams and brooks here and there. Its soil contains rich
organic and mineral matter with moderate acidity. Such natural ecolobic environment is
quite suitable for the growth and development of tea. |

In 1992, Ecological Environment Research Center under China Academy of Seines
evaluated the quality of ecological environment of China's 27 provinces and autonomous
regions and reached a conclusion:"Six coastal provinces care the best, while Zhejiang
province is above all. " The province's good natural environment and consummate
tea-picking skills make the tea have high output, rich variety and good quality. |
